Artificial intelligence has emerged as a cornerstone of innovation and economic transformation globally, and in Saudi Arabia, its impact is both profound and far-reaching.

As the Kingdom embarks on a journey to realize the goals of Vision 2030, AI is playing a pivotal role in driving progress, fostering economic diversification, and empowering organizations to embrace the future of technology.

At the heart of Vision 2030 lies a commitment to harnessing cutting-edge technologies such as AI to build a knowledge-based economy and establish Saudi Arabia as a leading global hub of innovation.

The recently announced Riyadh Declaration underscores the importance of AI as a transformative force. It emphasizes the need for AI technologies to enable digital access, enhance digital knowledge, and tackle global challenges while creating economic value.

This vision aligns seamlessly with Saudi Arabia’s plans to invest $100 billion in establishing a world-class AI technology hub under the banner of “Project Transcendence.”

This initiative promises to bring together expertise, infrastructure, and innovation to position the Kingdom at the forefront of AI advancements.

Adding to this momentum is GAIA, Saudi Arabia’s generative AI startup accelerator program. Launched in Riyadh in May 2023, GAIA represents a bold step toward nurturing a vibrant AI ecosystem by empowering startups and innovators to develop groundbreaking solutions.

Similarly, Waed Ventures, Saudi Aramco’s venture capital arm, has allocated $100 million to invest in AI startups, further solidifying the Kingdom’s commitment to building a thriving technological landscape.

Notably, Aramco’s METABRAIN — a 250 billion parameter large language model — stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s ambition to lead in AI innovation, showcasing the potential to revolutionize industries and create unparalleled value.

The potential impact of AI on Saudi Arabia’s economy is substantial. A PwC report estimates that AI could contribute $135 billion to the Kingdom’s gross domestic product by 2030, a significant portion of the nation’s economic growth.

This transformative potential is already becoming a reality as organizations of all sizes and across all sectors embrace AI to optimize operations, drive growth, and accelerate progress toward Vision 2030.

In manufacturing, for instance, Obeikan Investment Group leveraged Azure OpenAI and IoT technologies to develop and implement a smart factory platform across 22 of the company’s factories.

As a result, the organization achieved a 30 percent increase in overall equipment effectiveness, a 30 percent reduction in costs, as well as significant reductions in waste and energy consumption.

Similarly, the Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Ma’aden), the largest mining company in the Middle East, adopted Microsoft 365 Copilot to help employees spend less time on administrative tasks and instead focus on more strategic tasks out in the field.

Over a period of six months, employees were able to significantly enhance their productivity, saving around 27 minutes per day that were previously spent on unnecessary meetings, 14 minutes on searching for and summarizing documents, and 18 minutes on creating high-quality content.

In education, Gameit, an innovative Saudi startup, leveraged Azure OpenAI to develop AI-powered games that enhance cognitive skills such as attention, memory, logical reasoning, auditory and visual perception, and social skills in children.

With our investments in a new cloud datacenter region, we are providing the foundation for Saudi organizations to innovate and lead in the era of AI.

The games are scientifically designed to help all school students, including those facing learning challenges.

Meanwhile, Diriyah, the historic birthplace of the first Saudi state and home to the UNESCO World Heritage site of At-Turaif, utilized the advanced capabilities of Copilot Studio to develop and deploy the “CXQA AI Agent,” which is empowering its teams to enhance customer experiences, analyze data to uncover key trends, develop tailored solutions, and efficiently manage complex on-site operations.

Such use cases highlight the transformative potential of AI in addressing complex challenges, fostering innovation, and delivering tangible benefits to society.

As a longstanding partner in Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation journey, Microsoft is deeply committed to empowering organizations to leverage the latest advancements in AI and other transformative technologies to achieve their goals.

Our investments in the Kingdom reflect this commitment, specifically the construction of a new cloud datacenter region that will empower businesses with access to scalable, highly secure, and resilient cloud services.

Recently, we completed construction of three Azure Availability Zones, which will serve as the necessary foundation for AI innovation, enabling organizations to access the latest AI technologies and services with enhanced security and reliability.

Our collaborations with leading Saudi organizations further underscore our dedication to fostering a vibrant technological ecosystem.

By partnering with government entities, enterprises, and startups, we aim to create solutions that drive innovation, attract global investments, and position Saudi Arabia as a global hub for technology and talent.

As Saudi Arabia continues its journey toward realizing Vision 2030, AI stands as a powerful catalyst for change. The Kingdom’s bold investments in AI infrastructure, startups, and innovation are not just setting the stage for the future — they are defining it.

We have seen how organizations like Obeikan, Ma’aden, Gameit, and Diriyah are already reaping the tangible benefits of AI, from increased efficiency and cost savings to enhanced customer experiences and educational advancements.

This is not a distant vision; it is the reality unfolding now.

With such undeniable momentum, the time to embrace AI at scale is not tomorrow, but today. The opportunities for transformation are vast, and the potential to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s goals is immense. Don’t just observe the AI revolution; be a part of it.

Microsoft stands ready to support everyone on this journey, empowering organizations to navigate the complexities of the digital age, accelerate their AI transformation, and unlock new opportunities for growth and prosperity.

With our investments in a new cloud datacenter region, we are providing the foundation for Saudi organizations to innovate and lead in the era of AI.

We look forward to the road ahead as we help accelerate progress toward Vision 2030 and build a more prosperous and sustainable future for the Kingdom.

  • Algeria international Houssem Aouar, scored the winner in added time from close range following a cross by Moussa Diaby

Houssem Aouar scored a last-minute goal to help Al-Ittihad complete a comeback and secure a 3-2 win over Al-Nassr on Wednesday, taking them a step closer to clinching the Saudi Pro League title.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring for the home side after three minutes with a low shot.
The Senegal international then assisted Ayman Yahya to make it 2-0 for Al-Nassr in the 37th minute. The goal stood following a VAR review, even though the ball had touched Mane’s hand in the build-up.
Al-Ittihad were the better side after the interval and Karim Benzema reduced the deficit with a header in the 49th minute.
Laurent Blanc’s side equalized after a counter-attack, finished off by N’Golo Kante who slotted the ball into Al-Nassr’s net.
Algeria international Houssem Aouar, scored the winner in added time from close range following a cross by Moussa Diaby.
Al-Ittihad, who can clinch the domestic double after reaching the King Cup final, extended their lead to 71 points, six ahead of Al-Hilal, with four games remaining.
For Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, now fourth with 60 points, the loss was a setback to their hopes of reaching the AFC Champions League elite next season, with only two teams qualifying from the league after Al-Ahli of Saudi won the continental title last Saturday.

Saudi project destroys 600 more Houthi landmines and other explosives in Yemen
  • The devices, cleared from various parts of the war-torn country in recent months, were safely detonated on Wednesday
  • Project Masam has removed nearly 500,000 mines across Yemen since its launch in 2018

RIYADH: Members of the Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance, also known as Project Masam, safely detonated 600 mines, unexploded ordnance and other explosive devices on Wednesday.

The project’s engineers had demined and removed the devices over the past few months from various parts of Yemen, including the town of Beihan and the districts of Usaylan and Ain in Shabwah governorate.

Hussein Al-Aqili, commander of the project’s survey team, said they carried out the destruction operation in the Thahba area of Ain district on Wednesday as part of their ongoing mission to clear mines and other remnants of war in Yemen, and save civilian lives.

The project has cleared nearly 500,000 mines from the country since its work there began in 2018.

Last week, Ousama Algosaibi, the managing director of Masam, warned that the Houthis continue to exploit periods of truce to plant more mines across Yemen.

“We are in a constant race with the Houthi militias; we clear mines from one side while they plant more on the other,” he said during an interview with Al-Ekhbariya TV.

Netflix announces major revamp of app homepage
  • Redesign features enhanced personalization and improved recommendations, as well as vertical videos on mobile devices

DUBAI: Streaming giant Netflix will begin rolling out a major revamp of its TV app’s homepage next week.

The new design “is simpler, more intuitive, and better represents the breadth of entertainment on Netflix today,” the company’s chief product officer, Eunice Kim, said on Tuesday.

It includes a navigation bar at the top of the screen, rather than the current position on the left, and more-responsive recommendations while a user browses the app.

Netflix’s chief technology officer Elizabeth Stone said that in making these recommendations the service “will pull in more signals,” such as search history and the trailers watched by a user.

“And because everything will happen seamlessly in the background, you won’t even notice it happening — it will just be magically easier to find something to watch,” she added.

The overall design will be more minimalist and cleaner, providing all the relevant information about a title in one place so as to reduce “eye gymnastics” and help users make an “informed choice,” Kim said.

The mobile app is also getting an overhaul, as Netflix tests the use of the favored video format on social media: vertical viewing. The vertical feed will feature clips from movies and TV shows that users can browse and then click on to visit to a title’s home page.

Netflix has previously used artificial intelligence technology across the platform for features such as recommendations but now, with advances in generative AI, it aims to go a step further by showcasing titles in more languages and including chatbot-like functionality.

For example, viewers can use conversational phrases such as “I want to watch something scary but not too scary” to search for content.

“Believe it or not, that search phrase will actually yield results in the new experience,” said Stone.

The company is also investing further in its content-delivery network, Open Connect, which optimizes streaming globally across differing internet speeds.

“Open Connect has given us a really strong foundation and now we’re building on that foundation as we deliver a broader and more complex variety of entertainment, including live events and games on TV,” Stone said.

“Entertaining the world is hard but technology makes it easier.”

World Central Kitchen halts work in Gaza as supplies run out
  • WCK said it would continue to support Palestinian families by distributing critically needed potable water where possible
  • Israel has faced growing international pressure to lift an aid blockade

CAIRO: The US-based World Central Kitchen charity has halted work in the Gaza Strip, saying on Wednesday it had run out of supplies and been prevented by Israel from bringing in aid.
“After serving more than 130 million total meals and 26 million loaves of bread over the past 18 months, World Central Kitchen no longer has the supplies to cook meals or bake bread in Gaza,” it said in a post on X.
The charity said it would continue to support Palestinian families by distributing critically needed potable water where possible, but vital food distribution cannot resume until Israel allows aid back into the enclave.

“WCK trucks loaded with food and cooking fuel have been ready at the Gaza border since early March. Additional food and equipment are ready to be shipped to the border from Jordan and Egypt,” said World Central Kitchen, which was founded by celebrity chef Jose Andres.
Israel has faced growing international pressure to lift an aid blockade that it imposed in March after the collapse of a US-backed ceasefire that had halted fighting for two months.
Israel has accused agencies, including the United Nations, of allowing large quantities of aid to fall into the hands of Hamas militants, who it accuses of seizing supplies intended for civilians and using them for their own forces. Hamas denies the allegation and accuses Israel of using starvation as a weapon against the population.
Growing lootings of community kitchens, stores of local merchants, and UN headquarters have prompted Hamas security forces to crack down on local gangs. Hamas executed at least six gang members last week, according to sources close to the group.
UN humanitarian agency OCHA has said more than 2 million people — most of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million — face severe food shortages.

Where We Are Going Today: ‘Saqyah Meat’ restaurant in Riyadh

RIYADH: If you are in Riyadh and craving authentic, Saudi-style meat dishes that are rich in flavor and fall-off-the-bone tender, Saqyah is the place to visit.

With roots that go beyond the kitchen — they own their own grazing lands and farms — this brand takes pride in full control over the quality of its meat, and it shows in every bite.

Saqyah offers a wide range of meat options, from naeemi and Kashmiri to hashi and more. Prices are surprisingly affordable for the quality delivered. Individual meals start at SR24 ($6.40), while larger sharing platters range between SR200 and SR1,000 ($53 to $266) depending on the size and type of meat.

Saqyah, however, is not just a restaurant, it is also a full-service butchery. If you want to buy fresh raw meat, they will prepare and cut it to order on the spot. Everything is well packaged, clean, and professionally handled, which makes it a trusted option for home cooking.

The only downside is that buying raw meat from Saqyah is more expensive than what you would find at regular markets. But you are paying for superior cleanliness, trusted sourcing, and precise butchering — something you might not always get elsewhere.

With its strong Saudi identity, quality control, and fair pricing for cooked meals, Saqyah is a name meat lovers in Riyadh should definitely have on their radar.
